The Fairfield Glade Lions Club has announced that the annual benefit golf tournament shall take place at the Heatherhurst Crag Golf Course on Saturday October 3, 2009. This will be the 20 anniversary of this popular annual event which has helped the Lions Club raise significant monies to support the ongoing efforts in county school and healthcare agency eye care and hearing testing, seeing that needy local residents and their families receive follow up eye care, testing pre-schoolers in the Kidsight program to help early detection of eye disease issues… and ongoing support of numerous community organizations that help the underprivileged. Over the past twenty years more than 60,000 Cumberland County school children have had their hearing and sight tested by the Lions. Also More than 4,000 preschoolers have been tested for eye disease issues.
As in previous years, the tournament will be a 4 person scramble format. There will be Mens, Mixed, and Ladies Flights. Teams will be Pre-Flighted. The Tournament Entry Forms will require that each participant list his/her “average” or “typical” score for an 18 hole round of golf. The “averages” of the 4 players will be flighted with similar “average score” teams. Though the majority of 4 person teams are pre formed, individual players are invited to sign up and teams will be formed.
There will be first, second and third place awards given in each flight. In addition there will be 4 hole-in-one prizes (one on each Par 3). The biggest hole-in-one award will be $5,000 in cash. The others will include free golf clubs, free airline tickets and free cruise awards. There will also be goody bags and free range balls for each participant. Also there will be coffee and a continental breakfast available, with fruit and snacks for the golf course. Soft drinks will be provided. There will also be numerous door prizes and a silent auction featuring great opportunities on golf clubs as well as numerous craft items.
Immediately following the tournament there will be a catered luncheon at the Pavilion of the First Methodist Church. If a golf participant wishes to add a luncheon guest.. the cost for the guest will be 8 dollars.
Sign up your team ( or yourself) prior to August 15,2009 and save 5 dollars per person.
The major sustaining sponsor for this year’s tournament is the First National Bank located on Peavine Road directly in front of the Food City Supermarket. This sponsorship has been especially appreciated this year when many of our local businesses have felt the “economic pinch”. The Lions Club will appreciate any additional support it may be able to receive by way of practice area or golf hole sponsorships.
